Mae’r ddeddf Iechyd a Diogelwch yn y Gweithle 1974 a’r Rheoliadau "CDM" 2007 yn gosod dyletswydd ar yr holl gyrff o fewn y Sector Gyhoeddus yng Nghymru yn cynnwys awdurdodau lleol a Chymdeithasau Tai i asesu os yw unrhyw gontractwyr maent yn ei cyflogi yn gymwys. O ganlyniad, pan yn tendro am waith, mae nifer o gyrff o fewn y Sector Gyhoeddus yng Ngogledd Cymru wedi dewis y ‘Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme’ (neu CHAS) fel un modd o fesur cydymffurfiaeth iechyd a diogelwch contractwyr pan yn gosod unrhyw gytundebau o fewn y sector adeiladu. Yn y mwyafrif o dendrau neu holiaduron cyn-gymhwyso, mae nifer o gyrff sector gyhoeddus nawr yn gofyn am CHAS neu gyfystyw o fewn yr adrannau Iechyd mic stand case a Diogelwch yn yr holiaduron.
